Gun Control and the Second Amendment
Published Daily Review February 2, 2014
There is always a lot of talk about gun control, but is this really the solution to our gun related problems? The second Amendment of the Constitution reads, “A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” Most people today feel the Second Amendment gives them the right to keep and bear arms for their own self protection and for sport. Few people ever mention why our fore fathers even put the right to keep and bear arms into the Constitution. When this country was formed, we had just come out from under the oppressive British government of tyranny. Getting out from under the tyranny of King George, came at a great cost; the American Revolution. The writers of the Constitution wanted to make sure the colonists would never have to live under a government of tyranny again. The Second Amendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms to, defend ourselves against tyranny, for self protection, and for sport. I believe the main reason for the Second Amendment is to give us the right to protect and defend our country and ourselves against tyranny.
Whenever there is a mass shooting somewhere, some of the public and politicians want to legislate more gun control. Why do they want good law abiding citizens going around defenseless? Why do they want to blame the guns? Guns don’t kill people; they need human intervention. Can an electric chair throw its own switch? How can a gun pull its own trigger?
After a school shooting, everybody wants to debate if teachers should be armed. So many times, when seconds count, the police are minutes away. Most of the school shootings, last for a very short time. By the time the authorities get there; the threat is over. Are the teachers supposed to sit there defenseless, while kids are being shot? If teachers are mentally competent, have a background check, and training in how to use a hand gun; why shouldn’t they be armed? What happened at the Sandy Hook School was a terrible thing. How many kids could have been saved if someone there could have stopped what was happening? It would be nice if we could ask the teachers, and the kids, who lost their lives there if they wish their teachers had armed themselves? What do you think they would say? Maybe they should have the final say in this debate?
Another aspect of gun control is not, so much about gun control as it is about people control. Adolf Hitler once said, “To conquer a nation, first disarm its citizens.” After World War I, Hitler relaxed the very strict gun laws in Germany. In 1935 Adolf Hitler made the following statement. “This year will go down in history for the first time a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future.” In 1938, a German law was passed barring all Jews from owning any weapons. The Nazis went from door to door confiscating guns from the Jews. After disarming all the Jews, Hitler starting rounding up the Jews, and sending them to concentration camps, where they were killed by the millions. Most historians agree it is an undeniable fact; the Holocaust would never have happened if the Jews in Germany had the right to bear arms, and they were able to defend themselves.
Today; we live in a country that has a government that is out of control. A lot of the politicians act more like dictators rather than elected officials. Look at the Governor of New York, and the Mayor of New York City. They do whatever they want. We have a President that has basically said many times, the hell with Congress; I don’t need Congress. I will just use my pen, and sign an executive order to do what I want. He’s untrustworthy and has no respect for the Constitution. Do you want to relinquish your rights to the Second Amendment; the right to keep and bear arms to this oligarchy, we call a democratic government?
The men who drafted the Constitution realized; the right to keep and bear arms was one of the greatest and most important rights we could have. Remember; the first part to the Second Amendment says, “A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state.” They knew, the lost of this right will create a path which will lead us through a gateway into a land of tyranny.
