National Debt

publish daily review                                                                                                                        November 8, 2013

I watch the news almost every day trying to keep up with what is going on in the world.  They talk about the national debt being eighteen trillion dollars; which is the same as eighteen thousand billion dollars.  To better understand how much money this is; take the area of a professional football field 160 feet by 360 feet, and lay one dollar bills flat on the surface like you would lay tile on a floor.   Keep adding layers of money until you use up eighteen trillion one dollar bills.  You will have a stack of money that measures 2.6 miles high, that is thirteen thousand seven hundred and twenty feet high.  That is a huge pile of money.   There is a lot of talk about how the government spent six hundred million dollars on the Obama care debacle.  This seems like a huge sum of money to you and me.  However: it is only 0.003%, that’s right, three thousandths of a percent of the national debt.  This is only a drop in the bucket compared to our national debt. How can the country pay off a debt this large, and maintain their current rate of spending and waste?

This debt concerns me a great deal, and it should concern every citizen in the country.  When you consider all the other problems in the county; we have ninety million people out of work and more than half the population getting some sort of government assistance.  There are forty-seven million people on food stamps which cost the welfare system trillions of dollars a year, and the president wants to keep on spending. Look at the financial fraud in the government and the financial fraud with the government contractors, and all the un-needed pet projects that cost millions of dollars.

No one in Washington D.C. seems to care.  There is no one ever held accountable, and when they do catch them, it seems like they promote them, and pay them more money.  Look at what happen in the IRS, when they were caught harassing the Tea Party. The people involved were promoted. No one was fired.

What is going to happen in January when Congress has to do something with the debt ceiling again?  Are they going to raise it, so President Obama can spend trillions of more dollars?   Can you run your home finances this way, keep raising your credit limit, and living on borrowed money, and use borrowed money to make payments on previously borrowed money?   Are we going to go through what we did in October, with another government shutdown?  There is little doubt they really need to cut the budget, but where are they going to cut it?  Do you think they will, cut pork barrel spending, crack down on all the corporate welfare, or waste and fraud in the government?   Do you think the government will put the financial burden upon what little middle class there is left, the poor, and the elderly?  If you said the middle class, poor and elderly you are probably right. What do you think is going to happen; when the government is forced to cut billions of dollars from the food stamp programs? What is the government going to do with thousands of hungry people?

I grew up in the fifty’s and sixty’s, and I firmly believe they were the best years this country ever saw.  My dad worked at minimum wage, and I had a stay at home mom, he managed to buy a home, and raise a family.  We never needed welfare. Today; two people working at minimum wage have a struggle to make ends meet.   I am sure; I am going to see this great country, which I knew as a kid, fold up, and fall apart in an economical collapse in my life time.

There is little doubt the system will fold up and collapse. It is so far gone and corrupt; I can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel.  I don’t believe it is any longer a matter of if it is going to fall apart; it is just a matter of how soon.  I have had people tell me; it will never happen. Look at the great city Detroit; once the motor city capital of the world.  Half the people have left, they have thousands of empty building, billions of dollars of debt, and they’re in bankruptcy. The greed and corruption is not going to stop.   The George W. Bush and President Obama’s keep on spending administration is taking the United States for one hell of a ride into an economic collapse.
