How to protect your Facebook account from being hacked.

I have noticed lately that face book account hacking has become unbelievably common. I am sure there are many people that are reading this that have had their account hacked or know someone that has had their account hacked.  I have had several people ask me how to keep their Facebook account secure. This is no way to protect your Facebook account 100% from hackers(aside from not having a Facebook account) however, there are ways to protect yourself from Facebook hackers , and greatly reduce your risk of having your account hacked, some of these tips will also apply to other sites.

1.       Don’t enter login credentials to Facebook(other any other site) unless you are  absolutely sure that you are logged out(some sites will retain login information after you leave the site). Remember: if you are already logged into Facebook and you are asked for your Facebook username and password it is most likely a scam!

2.       If you get an e-mail from Facebook(or another site that you belong to)  avoid clicking links in the e-mail message. Instead manually enter the address of the site to log in.

3.       If you are signing in the Facebook from a public computer be sure to clear the “keep me signed in” checkbox. This will automatically log you out of Facebook after it hasn’t been used to an extended period of time. If you are signing in on a home computer it is recommended to leave this box checked.

4.       If you suspect that you have been hacked (or if you have been hacked) immediately change your password.

5.     Avoid using the same username/password for multiple online accounts(i.e. don't use the same username and password for Facebook and another online account)
